Walk-in tent-only campsite Seminole Ranch Conservation Area's Fish Hawk Pond campsite is a large primitive tent-only campsite located under pines and palms near the banks of Fish Hawk Pond on the southwestern portion of Seminole Ranch Conservation Area. In years past, this campsite was a Florida Youth Conservation Corps site. Until late 2024, the campsite was managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as part of the 6,000-acre Seminole Ranch Wildlife Management Area, which is seasonally hunted. This tent-only campsite is located next to a gated parking area and within easy walking distance of the Florida National Scenic Trail. While vehicles cannot park within the campsite footprint, the parking area is literally steps away from the picnic pavilion and the extensive tent area. Amenities at this large campsite include a non-potable water pitcher pump, a picnic table, benches, a firepit, grill and plenty of space for multiple tents. There are no restrooms. Reservations are required and may be made up to 90 days in advance and at least 48 hours ahead of a desired date. Vehicle makes, models and license plate numbers are mandatory for all vehicles accessing the locked gate leading to the campsite parking area. The 40-acre pond adjacent to the camping area is an ideal location for fishing, paddling ( non-motorized watercraft only ) and wildlife viewing. Swimming and motorized watercraft are prohibited. Other year-round activities at Seminole Ranch Conservation Area include horseback riding, hiking, picnicking and nature study. The property includes 12 miles fronting the St. Johns River and 4.3 miles of the Florida National Scenic Trail. Seminole Ranch Conservation Area is part of a large group of publicly owned lands in the area that includes the Little-Big Econ State Forest, Charles H. Bronson State Forest, Tosohatchee State Reserve and the St. Johns National Wildlife Refuge. The 1,650-acre Orlando Wetlands Park is also nearby.
