Hike-in / boat-in tent-only campsite Along with its purpose to protect vital water resources, the Ocklawaha Prairie Restoration Area provides opportunities for a variety of recreational uses, including primitive tent camping along the waterway. The hike-in/boat-in campsite requires reservations at least 48 hours in advance and up to 90 days in advance. Maximum occupancy is six people. The campsite may be accessed on foot or bicycle from the white trail parking area (2-mile hike) or by boat or canoe/kayak from the Ocklawaha River. Amenities at this campsite are fire ring with grill attachment, benches, picnic table and non-potable water pitcher pump. The Ocklawaha Prairie Restoration Area is open to the public for hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, and wildlife viewing. Seasonal hunting is allowed by permit only on the public small game hunting area in the basin marsh area. Outside of hunting season, the basin marsh wetland area provides an opportunity for bird watching, photography, nature study and hiking along the levee trail and a boardwalk out into the marsh. The property's connectivity with the Ocala National Forest, Cross Florida Greenway and other protected public lands increases available habitat corridors for wildlife. Maximum length of stay is 7 consecutive days, not to exceed 30 days annually.
