Hike-in tent-only campsite Fort Drum Marsh Conservation Area features a mosaic of wetland and upland communities, about 5 miles of hiking trails and three reservation-only primitive campsites. Located near the eastern terminus of Fort Drum's scenic boardwalk as a spur off the white trail, Hike-in Campsite 2 is equipped with a fire ring, bench seating and a single tent platform. The hike from the parking area to the boardwalk is about a half mile. It is also important to know that Fort Drum Marsh floods seasonally, so there are times the trails are completely under water. Maximum occupancy is six people. Reservations are required to camp at Fort Drum Marsh. By providing vehicle make, model and license plate number when making a reservation, the reservation holder will receive a vehicle permit allowing motor vehicle access past the Lake Cara locked gate to park overnight at the Horseshoe Lake parking area (maximum two cars; both must be listed on the permit). Without a valid vehicle permit, you are welcome to park at Lake Cara and hike to the campsite. Important: Vehicle make, model and license plate number are required for any vehicle that will access the gate to park in the Horseshoe Lake parking area. Unauthorized vehicles past the gate are subject to motor vehicle trespass citation and towing at owner's expense. Other recreational activities at Fort Drum Marsh include picnicking, horseback riding, fishing, bicycling, wildlife viewing, canoeing and seasonal hunting. The main entrance to Fort Drum Marsh Conservation Area is located on the south side of State Road 60, approximately 18 miles west of I-95 and 10 miles east of Yeehaw Junction (main entrance lat/long: 80° 45' 59.06"W / 27° 38' 29619" N).
